With the success the club has enjoyed over the past few years in producing quality teams at the national level, we will be entering a senior men’s team for the 2010-2011 season.

Head Coach of the club’s boy’s programme and Academy Director Nick Drane has in the past bemoaned the lack of a senior team as an exit route for under 18 players. And now with the club fielding boy’s teams at the national level in each age category, it was essential that the tradition of producing players that can excel at the national and international level continue.

The club will be holding trials for the senior squad on Thursday 28 January, 6.30pm at the Kesgrave community centre. Invitations have been sent to players and clubs in the local and surrounding areas.

The number of boys’ teams competing this season has made it necessary for Nick Drane to look at the quality of the teams competing and to make some crucial decisions that would allow the senior team to take shape. One of the main stumbling blocks in the past to the senior men’s programme was to ensure that the team was an extension of the junior development started at the early stages of the player’s basketball development. So, by making changes to the structure of the teams for next season and re-organising the coaching staff, the club can make certain there is continuity in the way that the teams play and the coaching philosophy within the club.

The under 18s boys coach Denis Dixon will take on the challenge of guiding the senior team in its inaugural season.

It’s an exciting time for the club and doubly exciting for the players as they now have an avenue where they can continue to play the game at a sustained high level past their junior development, and take their playing careers as far as their talent and desire will allow them.
