This week Ipswich Tomcats u14's game was against the visiting Southend Swifts, and due to the margin of victory in the previous match between the two sides, Coach Drane took the decision to allow Luke Mascall-Wright to play up two age groups with the under 16's, and with Reis Pinnock away running cross country it was an opportunity to give his bench players their time in the limelight.

One of the most frustrating aspects of the u14's season so far has been the wildly varying gulf in ability between the Tomcats and their opposition, not always but more often than not - which then poses the challenge of making the games a worthwhile experience for the players.  This game was no different, and having held the Swifts to under 20 points on their own court, the coaching staff had to work to keep the Tomcats focused and motivated.

Several players took the opportunity to have excellent games, the scoring was balanced, and the intensity and focus on defence paid off.  Sam Newman merits a special mention, after a real eye-catching offensive display that saw him dish out numerous assists, and hit his personal season-high in scoring (24) as did Dan Wordsworth (20) and Robinson Maka (58).  All in all, a very solid display from the whole team, now bring on those tougher games.
