The second match of the u18 Tomcats' weekend double header was played on Sunday at the Dome. This was their ‘away’ fixture which had been rescheduled from January against the College of West Anglia Fury. We were still quite sharp from our win on Saturday, so we were looking for a quick start to get the first of three home games off to a good start. But with traffic delaying the arrival of the Fury, the 12 noon start tip finally got on the way at 13.00 pm, after a very long warm up session. Our first meeting against the Fury was our first game of the season and the result was decided early in the game. As in this return match, we didn’t expect much resistance, but wanted to maintain our game play discipline. With our captain and defensive catalyst, Ethan, out with a stomach bug, we looked to Joe and Nathan to get us off t a strong start in the back court, and JC (Jack Collett), David and Tyme at the forward positions. This game never really got into a flow for us. Although we were able to score quite consistently, our defence for the entire game was mediocre at best, with the Fury giving a valiant account of themselves and refusing to concede the game without a commendable effort. JC was our offensive catalyst this game, leading all scorers with 20 points, many of which came from some very accurate shooting from the floor. Tom was, as always, present on the offensive boards and chipped in with 19 points. David Lockwood, Liam Eley and Jack Spiller were the other scorers to reach double figures as we completed the 87-46 win. Given the high standards we have come to expect of ourselves, this game wasn’t one of our better displays, but we did what was necessary to get the result we wanted. We are now left with two more games on an away and home format as we close out the season. Top scorers: Jack Collett 20, Tom Hunt 19, David Lockwood 15, Jack Spiller 11, Liam Eley 10. |
